Woven on traditional handlooms using fine cotton yarn and kasavu, or zari, the technique creates its signature golden borders and subtle geometric details directly within the weave. Its natural cream base, lustrous gold accents, fine texture, and restrained patterns make Kasavu instantly recognisable. Rooted in Kerala’s royal weaving traditions and sustained by generations of artisan communities in centres such as Balaramapuram, Chendamangalam, and Kuthampully, the craft remains a timeless expression of the region’s textile heritage.
