About Us
About the Founders
Founded by sisters Tanya Berry and Lara Chandra, Mirasi was born from a deep respect for India’s craft heritage, and a recognition of the challenges faced by artisans today. Mirasi was also made because both founders had spent over two decades building meaningful careers, and they believed that it was time they came together to make a difference to the crafts sector and how people see and experience it.
India is home to one of the world’s richest craft traditions, with weaving, embroidery, dyeing, and handloom practices passed down over centuries. Yet the communities behind these crafts face low wages, inconsistent work, and limited access to markets. The skills that have defined India’s handicraft legacy are also at a risk of being lost.
Mirasi was created to contribute to change this. Our mission is to empower artisans by supporting and enabling rural livelihoods, traditional livelihoods and women’s home based work. We wish to provide visibility and dignity to the work of artisans and weavers by re-presenting and introducing their craft to new audiences in contemporary ways. By building direct partnerships with craft communities, Mirasi ensures that artisans are compensated fairly, and duly recognised as collaborators in Indian design and innovation.
As a women-led organisation, Mirasi places special emphasis on supporting women artisans, whose contributions have long been under-recognised. We believe that economic independence for women strengthens both families and communities, and that sustainable craft can be a pathway to inclusive and sustainable growth.
Through handwoven and handcrafted sarees, apparel, textiles, and accessories, Mirasi brings forward products that carry heritage and modern relevance in equal measure. Every Mirasi item that you own is a reflection of the artisan’s skill, culture, and resilience and our team’s effort in bringing this all to you!
